Electrospray Assisted Resin Transfer Molding to Incorporate Nano Phase Structures into Fiber Reinforced Composites

Composites are anticipated to present enhanced mechanical, thermal and electrical properties that can be emerged through the integration of nano phase structures into existing methods. Fundamental expectation from such an integration is to be an easily applicable, up scalable and low cost. There are numerous studies on literature based on mainly four different manufacturing methods each of which has distinct drawbacks to incorporate nano phase structures such as carbon nanotubes, nano fibers of various polymers, or graphene  etc.  into fiber reinforced composites. Incorporating nano structures into traditional polymeric composites by using these techniques at large scale still remains as a challenge ahead. Therefore, we have designed and implemented a new technique to circumvent associated up-scaling and manufacturing issues. In this direction, we have attempted to incorporate carbon nanotubes into fiber reinforced composites manufactured by Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) method through electro-spraying and electro-spinning processes.
