Designed-in Molecular Interactions and Cross-linking Interface for Superior Nanocomposites:A Multi-scale Insight
The novelty of this research thesis is based on designing the chemistry of the electrospun nanofibers, so that the resultant composites substantially benefit from cross-linking between the nanofibers and the polymer matrix. In this research, the hypothesis is that incorporation of electrospun surface modified/reactive nanofibers with epoxide functional groups with/without MWCNTs (multiwalled carbon nanotubes) into the epoxy resin results in significant improvements in the mechanical properties. To investigate this hypothesis we implement both experimental and computational methods in the different aspects of research. The ultimate goal is utilize the data obtained both experimental analysis’s and computational simulations to understand the dominated mechanisms in mechanical response   and finally to build an efficient interface design in crosslinked matrix.
